Here we are in the crown of the Statue of Liberty!

Dear 4th Grade Family,

Welcome back to another school year.  This is my 9th year at Gravely and my 18th year teaching 4th grade.  I am very excited for all that we will experience as a class this year.  Here is some info about me!

*I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (Go Illini!) and received my Master’s Degree at Wayne State University in Detroit in Science Education.

*I have 3 children of my own: Grace is in 7th grade at Reagan, Audrey is in 4th grade at Gravely, and Evan is a 1st grader here at Gravely.  We also have a dog, Rey, and foster dogs that come and go from our home into their forever homes.  I love gardening, reading, hanging out pool-side, and anything “green” and good for the environment!

*I rarely assign homework.  My belief is that children need opportunities to play creatively, to run around, to explore and discover.  My only expectation is that each student reads each and every day.  They should strive for a minimum of about 20 minutes each day.  This can be by themselves, to someone, or they can be read to!  Reading doesn’t have to be an independent activity all of the time…make it a family event!  Students can use returned work to practice skills and study guides to review current content.

*Your child will have their blue Seadog folder and agenda in a binder and it should be in their backpack each day.  Please look through this with them each day, however, agendas do NOT need to be signed nightly.  The blue folder is where you will find notes to go home and returned work, and study guides will eventually go into the binder with their agenda and folder.

*Please make sure that your child brings a snack each day.  Our lunch isn’t until 12:21 so they are definitely hungry by then!  I highly encourage everyone to bring a water bottle each day to keep them hydrated and in the classroom as much as possible.  If you need support with daily snacks please do not hesitate to let me know.  I want to make sure that each of our kiddos is ready to learn!

*Please remember all dismissal changes should be sent in with your child in the morning.  I understand that it can be easy to forget so during those times I ask that you contact the office directly at 571-248-4930 to let them know of a change.  Often I am with the students and not checking my email throughout the day so I may not get to the notice until it is too late.

I anticipate a great year full of challenges, learning, and laughter!  If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please do not hesitate to contact me at or 571-248-4930.
